Sarah Lee

Senior in Biology, UAA

I am an incoming senior at UAA pursuing a Bachelors of Biology with a concentration in medical studies. I was born in Mineola, New York and lived on Long Island until the age of 16, when I moved to Anchorage. I attended and graduated from South Anchorage High School and chose to continue my educational journey towards a medical degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage. As I have nurtured a new found love for the natural beauty of this state, I aspire to become a practicing physician here in Alaska. I am determined to attend the regional medical education program, WWAMI, at the University of Washington.

Plasma research is a novel and innovative field of study with the potential for breakthrough treatments in biomedical applications. I find the limitless possibilities plasma research offers incredibly eye-opening and necessary to progressive healthcare. I see myself as a vital member who, with this research, is actively bridging the gap between research and real-life applications.

Our research team has been passionately working to design and construct a working DC corona plasma discharge apparatus with reactive oxygen/nitrogen species production capabilities to induce cell death in D. radiodurans and A549 lung cancer cells.
